Safety education in the community
|
|
In addition to working with schools, PGE also takes the electrical safety messages out into the community. We regularly remind customers — including children — how to use electricity safely and wisely through our advertising, newsletter, Web site and at neighborhood and community events.
You'll also see Larry the Lightbulb — PGE's mascot — and other PGE employee volunteers sharing safety tips at various annual family events.

Hundreds of PGE employees help out in Oregon schools every year, but that's just part of our involvement with school children. Since PGE is an electric utility, it's only natural that we are committed to educating kids about using electricity safely and wisely.
At the beginning of each academic year, PGE mails information to teachers, principals and PTAs to let educators know about the free electrical education resources listed below that we offer to schools within our service area. This includes live presentations as well as a variety of instructional materials on electrical safety, science and sustainability. Educators also can schedule a presentation or order materials online.
Free Live Presentations
To make arrangements to have one of the following presentations at a school in the PGE service area, fill out our Request a Speaker form. We also can schedule speakers on electricity generation and distribution and the wise and efficient use of energy, as well as tours of PGE's Clackamas River hydroelectric facilities.
Vicky and Igor's Electrifying Adventure (Grades: K-3)
This high-energy musical play with sprinklings of Spanish and sign language uses a young girl's imaginative adventures as “Dr. Victoria Funkenstein” to teach about electrical safety. Produced for PGE by Creative Information, Transformation Education, a local nonprofit organization, this 45-minute production is ideal for an all-school assembly. Call CITE at 503-493-8070 to schedule.
Hazard Hamlet (Grades: 1-5)
PGE retiree Don Seldon uses an interactive presentation complete with realistic effects to demonstrate electrical safety hazards around the home and neighborhood, as well as energy resource options. This 30-minute presentation is tailored to a classroom setting. To arrange a presentation, call Scott Guptill at 503-464-8554.
Don't Touch It (Grades: 1-4)
A live presentation of the famous TV commercial in which PGE employee Paul Flora teaches children the five most important rules of electrical safety around downed utility lines, and more. This presentation is effective with up to 70 students and can be tailored to run from 35-55 minutes. Call Paul Flora at 503-612-3703 to schedule.
