With multiple generation, distribution and servicing facilities throughout our service territory, PGE is continually identifying ways that we can be more energy efficient.
This year, we’re upgrading our HVAC system in the computer room at our Portland Service Center. Computer rooms can get quite warm and typically heat is exhausted outside as part of the cooling process. Rather than losing that warmed air to the outside, we’re installing a heat exchanger to route that energy back in to the office building. Heating our Portland Service Center this way will save at least 35,000 kWh and almost 15,000 gas therms annually.
In addition, PGE is completing lighting upgrades at our Gresham Line Center and upgrading to high-efficiency heat pumps in two locations.
All together, our pledge for the 2009 Save More, Matter More campaign is to save an estimated 46,700 kWh annually. This is the equivalent of offsetting more than 42,000 pounds of carbon dioxide or not driving 47,000 miles in a gasoline powered car*.
