Preventative and diagnostic practices drive costs down by keeping equipment operating properly and identifying potential issues before they become problems.
We use state-of-the-art technology in our programs including:
Infrared scanning
While your equipment is operating, an infrared thermograph is used to find “hot spots” in any electrical equipment created by loose connections, damage, load imbalance or mechanical failures. Thermal and digital photographs are analyzed and interpreted to reveal components that are overloaded or which may become faulty. We provide a complete report of findings and associated recommended repairs.
Animal mitigation
Animal Mitigation Services provide protection to distribution system equipment that is prone to animal-caused damage resulting in outages. Animal mitigation will not only increase reliability and operational efficiency, but also reduce maintenance costs and increase life expectancy of electrical equipment.
Oil testing and filtration
These tests can indicate if there is arcing or heating occurring and help ensure a clean and non-contaminated environment within the insulating system. In the Northwest, moisture can play a large role in equipment failure. Moisture not only reduces the dielectric strength but also the partial discharge inception level. Moisture may also generate high-temperature gas bubbles, which create an extreme threat to the dialelectric integrity of the insulation structure. Filtration units are available for moisture reduction.
Dynamic and static cable testing
To help maintain cable reliability, we offer static and dynamic characteristic testing:
- Static characteristic testing — dielectric strength measurement of cable by meggering and/or hi-potting; location of “opens” in cable systems
- Dynamic characteristic testing — measurement of three-phase and single-phase system power, voltage and current;
measurement of three-phase and single-phase system current and voltage harmonics; measurement of transient (microsecond range), short-term and long-term occurrences of the above characteristics
- Online discharge testing — a non-destructive, non-invasive, predictive maintenance tool that assesses the condition of aging cable systems, splices and terminations without disrupting the plant or facility operations
Analysis services are also available once data is collected.
Battery testing
Distribution Services will perform load discharge, impedance, float and ripple current test on substation and communication batteries.
