Energy shape-up
New lighting slims down athletic club’s electricity costs.
Shaping up and slimming down. It’s a common success story at Anytime Fitness in Tigard. But this time, instead of a client, it’s the electric costs and lighting that are looking better.
Last year, during the PGE Save More, Matter More™ campaign, Sabrina Salas, the manager at Anytime Fitness, pledged to save energy. A free energy-efficiency consultation with PGE lighting specialist Mark Whitney led to a complete lighting retrofit. Extra Effort Consulting and Supply managed the project, which replaced old T12 fluorescent fixtures with high-performance T8s with electronic ballasts. Firefly Electric performed the installation.
Incentives, tax credits help
A $4,200 Oregon Business Energy Tax Credit and $3,500 in cash incentives from Energy Trust of Oregon helped cover costs. Payback will take only about 18 months, proving it was a smart investment even though Anytime Fitness leases the space.
Happy with results
Salas summed up the outstanding results in a letter to Extra Effort Consulting:
“We have already seen a significant drop in our energy costs, and both the Energy Trust incentive and Business Energy Tax Credit have proved this project to be a very cost-effective business decision.
We have had many comments by our customers about the improved light levels, which have given the gym a warmer, but brighter light.
Overall, just a great improvement!”
