150 days of service for Oregon

Helping take care of Oregon with 150 days of service
This year Oregon is celebrating 150 years of statehood. PGE and the PGE Foundation supported the Oregon 150 Take Care of Oregon Days service project, encouraging Oregonians across the state to roll up their sleeves and give back to their communities during the month of May.

We took volunteer service to a new level by celebrating the sesquicentennial with our own 150 Days of Service challenge.

We encouraged employees to participate in projects between April and September that focused on taking care of where we live and work.

Highlights include:
  • 150 volunteers logged more than 400 hours during the five-month-long challenge at a local food bank, repackaging more than 80,000 pounds of donated food items into family-friendly sizes that agencies can quickly pick up and distribute to those in need.
  • Hundreds of volunteers logged more than 1,000 hours cleaning illegal dumpsites, picking up trash and removing invasive plants in local parks and along parade routes. The final 150 Days of Service project was the SOLV Great Oregon Fall Beach Cleanup. More than 120 employees, their friends and family traveled to Ft. Stevens State Park in Astoria for trail maintenance and trash removal.

PGE employees, retirees and their friends and family members have logged more than 19,000 hours since the challenge began in April, with more than 32 percent employee participation.

“As we celebrate Oregon’s 150th birthday this year, this program provides each of us another opportunity to contribute to our community,” says Jim Piro, president and CEO. “PGE employees have always been great role models and leaders for giving back, especially during tough economic times when the people who live in our community need extra help.”
