Net Metering Service

If you are interested in generating your own power, PGE can help.

You may qualify for PGE’s Net Metering Service if:

  • The project is designed primarily to supply power for your home or business.
  • The generation is powered by wind, hydro, solar, uses fuel cell technology, or biogas or biomass.
  • Your generation is 25 kW or less (residential) or 2 MW or less (commercial).
  • Your generation operates in “parallel” with PGE’s grid.

At no charge, PGE will install bi-directional metering equipment. The meter will record both the flow of power from PGE to you, and any power flow from your generator that leaves your site and goes to the electrical grid.

Net Metering customers are still responsible for the basic charge as found on your current rate schedule, regardless of usage and usage charges. Details of the Net Metering program can be found in PGE’s Rate Schedule 203 — Net Metering Service, which is available as a PDF document.

Note: You will need the Adobe® Acrobat® Reader to view and print PDF files. Visit the Adobe Web site for downloading instructions. Because these documents are PDF files, formatting may differ from the official version.

If your generation does not qualify for Net Metering, you may qualify for the Small Power Production program, our Dispatchable Standby Generation program, or as a QF Power Producer.

If you are interested in selling power on the open market to a third-party buyer, see PGE’s OASIS Web site.
