Community 101SM

Community 101 Community 101, the signature program of the PGE Foundation, gives high school students the opportunity to learn about community service.

Community 101 empowers and inspires high school students by awarding them up to $5,000 to disburse among carefully researched nonprofit organizations of their choosing. Part of the research process requires the students to volunteer with the nonprofit groups.

Many high school teachers use Community 101 as a service-learning program for their students to meet their graduation requirements.

Approximately 35 schools throughout Oregon participate. Since its inception in 1997, Community 101 students have awarded more than $1 million to nonprofit organizations throughout Oregon. In 2002, Community 101 was the recipient of the Youth in Philanthropy award, presented by the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

See the PGE Foundation Web site for more details.
