Like all electric utilities, PGE has an impact on the environment.
Thats why we work hard to be good environmental stewards, especially in areas where we have facilities. (Read our recent Environmental Reports.)
We also encourage energy efficiency, and we have the most popular renewable energy program in the country.
In addition, we encourage sustainable initiatives that have a positive impact on our environment. Here are some of the many groups we support:
SOLV
PGE has long been one of the largest corporate supporters of SOLV, the nonprofit devoted to enhancing the livability of our state. SOLV works to build community through volunteerism to preserve this treasure called Oregon.
PGE employees turn out in huge numbers to assist at PGE-sponsored SOLV events
scouring the sand clean at beach cleanups
painting, planting and picking up at SOLV IT
removing non-native plants and creating butterfly gardens at Down by the Riverside
distributing and collecting trash bags at the PGE/SOLV Starlight Parade and Portland Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade. These projects preserve the environment and contribute to the livability of our state.

Friends of Trees

Trees soften the urban landscape. They beautify neighborhoods, help save energy by shading our homes, provide shelter for wildlife and even clean the air. Thats why the nonprofit Friends of Trees brings people in the Portland area together to plant, care for and learn about city trees.
PGEs own foresters work hard to help trees and power lines peacefully coexist. So supporting Friends of Trees is a natural fit for us.
In 1996, PGE signed on as the presenting sponsor of Friends of Trees five-year Seed the Future campaign. This successful campaign, which wrapped up in 2001, brought together 19,000 volunteers including many PGE employees and their families who planted more than 150,000 trees and helped restore the areas urban forest.
We are proud of this living legacy we planted, but we havent stopped there. PGE continues to sponsor neighborhood plantings and PGE volunteers continue to pitch in at planting parties.
To learn more or to volunteer for a planting event, visit the Friends of Trees Web site.
Solar Expo
PGE supports the development of clean, renewable energy solutions, so we sponsor the Northwest Solar Expo hosted by the nonprofit Oregon Solar Energy Industries Association. The Solar Expo features workshops and seminars, and vendors who can help customers learn more about how clean solar energy solutions might work at their home or business. PGE representatives are on hand to show customers how easy it is to go solar and how we can help. Visit the Northwest Solar Expo Web site for more information about location and times.
