Oregon Food Bank work party Our citizens are the foundation of a strong and vibrant community.

That’s why PGE supports a number of organizations and events aimed at fighting disease, awareness of health issues, and providing basic needs for many Oregonians. Here are some of the major projects we support:

Providence Cancer Center
PGE employees, like many others in today’s workforce are greatly affected by cancer. That’s why employees donate to Providence Cancer Center through our Employee Giving Campaign.

Providence Cancer Center offers some of the best, most comprehensive cancer services in the Pacific Northwest. From early diagnosis through innovative surgical, medical and radiation treatments, its team of doctors and researchers takes an aggressive stance toward detecting, treating, and eliminating cancer at every stage of the disease.

To learn more about the Providence Cancer Center, visit their Web site.

Oregon Burn Center
This is a cause that many PGE employees took to heart because they had a personal connection — a co-worker touched by tragedy. With help from the Oregon Burn Center at Legacy Emanuel Hospital, Blaine Degerness, a PGE lineman, made an inspirational recovery from massive burns suffered in a workplace accident.

In recognition of the outstanding work of the Oregon Burn Center, PGE and our employees continue to support the Burn Center through the Employee Giving Campaign and special company-wide fundraisers. You can learn more about the amazing work being done at the Oregon Burn Center through the Legacy Health System Web site.

Oregon Food Bank
Oregon has been called one of the hungriest states in the nation. That’s why PGE supports Oregon Food Bank in its commitment to eliminate hunger and its root causes — because no one should be hungry.

PGE supports other regional food banks throughout our service territory with financial contributions, food drives, volunteers and employee volunteer grants.

The Oregon Food Bank awarded its Stone Soup Award to PGE in 2004 in honor of its generosity and support of its many programs within and outside of the greater Portland area.

You can learn more about hunger in Oregon, and make a contribution to fight hunger, at the Oregon Food Bank Web site.

Oregon HEAT
Oregon HEAT is an independent nonprofit organization founded in 1989 to help low income Oregonians become more energy self-reliant. Oregon HEAT's primary program objective is to prevent disconnection of utility service during inclement weather by providing bill payment assistance to low income households in emergency situations.

Oregon HEAT works with social service and other agencies across the state to screen requests for assistance from customers of PGE, Pacific Power and West Oregon Electric Cooperative. Oregon HEAT provides assistance by purchasing heating oil when funds are available. Oregon HEAT makes payments directly to utilities or venders on behalf of low income customers who qualify for assistance.

To help low income households move toward self-reliance, Oregon HEAT is stepping up its efforts to provide energy conservation education, weatherization of homes, and hardware to reduce energy use. For more information, visit the Oregon HEAT Web site.

Community Energy Project
Community Energy Project For years now PGE has helped the nonprofit Community Energy Project weatherize the homes of low-income seniors and disabled people. It’s a great way for our employees to put their energy efficiency knowledge to good use.

Dozens of PGE volunteers pitch in on weekend “Take the Chill Out” events, caulking cracks, installing temporary storm windows and tackling other simple, low-cost tasks that keep these homes warmer and control energy costs.

PGE also offers financial support to Community Energy Project to help cover the cost of materials.

To learn more and find out how you can help, visit the Community Energy Project Web site.

American Heart Association
PGE has joined the American Heart Association in the fight against heart disease, the number one killer of men and women in America.

Hundreds of PGE volunteers walk in the American Heart Walk to support the American Heart Association. Learn more on the American Heart Association’s Web site.

American Lung Association — Reach the Beach
Each spring, the annual Reach the Beach bike ride raises money to help the American Lung Association promote clean air and fund tobacco control, medical research, and asthma education. In addition to PGE sponsoring the ride, PGE employee volunteers help along the course while a team of PGE cyclists participate in the ride. To learn more about Reach the Beach, visit the American Lung Association Web site.
