Ascending the ladder
An adult steelhead leaps a rung of the North Fork fish ladder. In 2004, nearly 4,000 winter steelhead were counted on the Clackamas, the best run in recent decades. More than half were unmarked native fish that were returned back into the river to spawn in the upper Clackamas. No sport fishing has been allowed in the upper Clackamas since 1999, when PGE biologists began sorting wild and hatchery fish.
