Fish population research
PGE fish biologists survey 100-yard sections of Whychus Creek, a tributary of the Upper Deschutes, and Ochoco and McKay creeks, tributaries of the Crooked River. Fish are attracted and stunned by an electrical wand. Biologists then net the fish for a brief inspection and marking, and return them unharmed to the river. Later they re-survey the reach to determine the number of rainbow trout. This will give the biologists a baseline from which to assess any changes following the introduction of salmon and steelhead in 2007.
