Water Quality Research

Water quality research
Biologists insert a pipe into the gravel to set up a water quality test. They measure the amount of fine sediments in the river by timing how long it takes the pipe to fill with water seeping up from the gravel riverbed. Too much sediment can cover salmon spawning areas, known as redds, and reduce survivability of eggs.
