Climate Change & PGE
PGE actively supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gases.

At PGE, we believe that it is in the best interests of our company, customers and shareholders to have a voice in shaping sensible government policies on climate change.

To combat climate change and introduce cleaner energy options, PGE is working on a number of fronts, including:
  • Lobbying for a national policy to reduce greenhouse gases
  • Advocating for new energy efficiency solutions for customers
  • Boosting our wind resources
  • Making PGE hydropower more fish friendly, qualifying it as a “low impact” resource
  • Promoting renewable programs that avoid carbon emissions

Addressing global climate change
PGE produced for Oregon lawmakers an overview of our actions and recommendations for reducing our industry’s impact in global climate change. Read this nine-page document, “The Electricity Sector’s Role in Oregon’s Carbon Emissions” (PDF).

Our strategy for addressing climate change is consistent with our history of prudent environmental stewardship and provides a framework for making sound decisions on issues related to climate change.

Our motivation reflects our commitment to good environmental practices, but is also practical. There is the potential that climate change could directly impact PGE power generation and our customers, including a possible reduction of summer flows on rivers and streams of the Northwest of 30 to 50 percent by mid-century.
