First blast of Marmot Dam removal

Marmot Dam
Demolition of Marmot Dam began July 24, 2007, with the detonation of 4,000 pounds of explosives. The debris was recycled for road surfacing and removal was completed in October 2007. Upgrade costs and concern for fish led PGE to close the Bull Run hydropower project. The Sandy River is now a free-flowing river for the first time since 1912.
