Wondering if a heat pump is right for you? Patrick Vance is one PGE customer who loves the comfort and convenience of a heat pump.
When Patrick Vance updated his 1970s house in the community of Macleay just outside of Salem, he installed a high-efficiency heat pump and he couldn't be happier.
“I program the thermostat and it just works! It automatically heats my home to 68 degrees and drops to 62 degrees overnight. It's absolutely carefree,” he says of the heat pump that he installed in November 2006. “I see it as a solid system upgrade that adds value to the house.”
Vance first had a Home Energy Review from Energy Trust of Oregon and took several steps to make his 1,900-square-foot house more energy efficient, including sealing and insulating the ductwork. Then he had the new heat pump installed, earning a cash incentive from Energy Trust and a rebate from PGE.
“It's quiet and clean,” says Vance, who has electric back-up heat for exceptionally cold days. Because he lives in a rural area he also likes the fact that his system includes an electronic air filter to take care of dust. And he knows he can count on his heat pump to keep his home cool and comfortable when the weather gets warmer.
“I had a heat pump in my previous house, too, and I just got spoiled with it,” he adds. “I change filters about once a month and that's it. It's absolutely foolproof.”
