Time of Use bases the cost of the energy you use on the time of day you use it.

Time of Use pricing is divided into three different price categories for three different parts of the day.

They do not include other charges that apply to all PGE customers, such as basic charge, distribution or supplemental adjustments. These other charges apply to all PGE customers and will appear on your bill. Time of Use rates also include a 1.775 cent/kWh credit for the first 250 kWh used.

The Time of Use option could result in a lower electricity bill, but only if you are able to significantly shift the number of kilowatt hours you use from on- and mid-peak to off-peak periods. Otherwise, you could end up paying more.

For example, a typical family of three uses about 80 kWh per month for electric clothes drying. Under PGE’s Time of Use option, on-peak usage for this period would equal $8.55. Mid-peak usage would equal $4.96, and off-peak would result in a cost of $2.84.

Please note: Due to Energy Policy Act changes in Daylight Saving Time, during Nov. 1-3, PGE meters are read one hour ahead due to their pre-programming under the former Daylight Saving Time periods. To keep your current savings you may want to shift your energy savings habits accordingly during those days. Due to the few number of days affected, if you make no adjustments for the one hour time difference, the impact on your bill will be less than $1 for the average Time of Use customer.

Time of Use pricing will work best for customers who use electricity late at night or on weekends. If you’re not able to significantly shift your energy use to off-peak periods, you will not benefit from this plan.

Eligibility and limits

• To participate in the program a special meter will need to be installed by PGE. To cover the cost of installation, an additional $1 (single-phase meter) or $4.25 (three-phase meter) will be added to your monthly bill.
• Enrollment minimum is one year.
• Applicants may not be enrolled in both Time of Use and Basic Service, but may combine either Time of Use or Basic Service with renewable options.
