Outside meter surge suppression*
Your first line of defense is at the electric meter. Here, most runaway voltage transported by power lines can be reduced to a safe level right where it enters the home.
A PGE Meter Surge Suppressor installs underneath your electric meter. It instantaneously responds to high voltage shocks to prevent damage. This product will help protect your major appliances such as your refrigerator. However, not all power problems originate outside the home. To protect your electronic equipment such as computers, you need additional inside outlet surge suppression.
*Meter Surge Suppressor on typical 200 amp or less residential electric service. If you have more than 200 amp service, you may qualify for a different unit.
Inside outlet surge suppression
Enhance your protection by teaming your Meter Surge Suppressor with outlet surge protection. Simply plugged into wall outlets, this type of surge suppression stops runaway voltage entering your home through phone, modem, and cable-TV lines from damaging your valuable electronic equipment.
Outlet surge suppression addresses the reality that not all power problems originate outside the home. In fact, “home-grown” power quality problems can start with appliance motors cycling on-and-off, and over time cause serious damage to today’s sensitive electronics. Most homes have surge protection of some kind, but today’s surge suppressors incorporate higher levels of protection than ever before.
