Federal residential energy-efficiency tax credits are available for a variety of energy measures including:
- Insulation
- Replacement windows
- Water heaters
- Certain high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment
- Solar energy systems
Energy projects now qualify for 30 percent tax credit
Customers who make their homes more energy efficient can now get up to $1,500 back on their 2009 or 2010 federal taxes. PGE employees also can take advantage of these generous tax incentives.
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the economic stimulus bill, offers a 30-percent federal tax credit to homeowners who install energy-efficient heating and cooling systems, such as high-efficiency heat pumps, during 2009 and 2010. Homeowners also can take a 30-percent tax credit for insulation and energy-efficient windows, doors, skylights and water heaters. The maximum credit for these measures is $1,500 per residence for the two years.
But wait, there’s more! Ground-source heat pumps, solar hot water, solar electric and small wind systems are exempt from the $1,500 maximum. Federal tax credits for these measures are good through 2016.
All projects must meet federal efficiency standards. For more information see the ENERGY STAR® Web site.
