Common questions about your build project
I’m building a new business. How do I start the process of getting power?
For each new meter, an account must be set up. Complete and submit our Request for New Commercial Service form and we will be in touch shortly.
How long does the process typically take?
Once we receive all your forms and documentation, including a site plan, we can begin the process of connecting a new or upgraded service account.
When we have all the necessary information, we will be able to provide a time frame based on your project requirements.
Do I need an easement?
We may require an easement for any of our electrical equipment or facilities that are or will be located on third-party property.
You are responsible for easement payments, though we are available to assist you with writing and recording the easements you need.
What things need to happen before actual construction begins?
To start construction, contractors are required to have a job sketch approved by us, and to set up a pre-construction meeting. We also require trench and vault inspection before the contractor backfills.
You are responsible for the cost of all specified conduit and vaults, including installation. Conduit is required for most underground wire conductors.
What is the minimum trench depth requirement?
Trench depth can vary depending on specific design and site conditions, but typically a 36-inch minimum depth, or 48-inch minimum depth for subdivisions, is required.
If large vaults are required, the conduit must be at the lowest term a duct level. See the ESR section 6 for details.
When are protective barrier posts required to be installed around PGE equipment, such as a pad mount transformer?
In areas where our equipment is exposed to vehicular traffic, barrier posts may be required. See ESR section 6.4.6 for details.
Once construction is complete, how long does it take to start regular service at my site?
Installation of service is normally scheduled 5 to 10 working days after all inspections are approved.
This depends upon successful completion of milestones that happen during construction, including payment, easements, completing any necessary tree trimming, and resolving site access issues (such as driveway installations).
Do you cover any upfront costs for commercial projects?
Yes. We help cover the cost of connecting you to power by providing an LEA (Line Extension Allowance). This is a portion of the cost that is covered at our expense. The LEA does not apply to pathway costs.
