Controlling your company’s AC at night or when you’re away

How to manage your cooling costs

Q: Is it better to turn the AC off when my business is closed, or leave it on but turn the temperature down?

A: It depends on your equipment, but it’s usually better to raise the temperature overnight or when your business is closed to save energy. Don’t raise it more than 10 degrees or turn it off completely. That way, your building can cool down easily again in the morning.

Here’s an extra energy-saving tip. If your system has an economizer, run it on cool nights when the next day is forecast to be hot. The economizer saves energy by running fans to draw in cool outside air, which gives your air conditioner a rest.
