Oregon’s Clean Energy Future
Let’s get to a clean future, together
Clean energy is good for everyone. For Oregon, it means healthier air and water. For the world, it helps fight the effects of climate change.
We all want clean energy, and that means working together. At PGE, we’ve powered our community for more than 125 years, and we’ve never stopped looking for ways to make energy clean and efficient. At the same time, we’re making sure that whatever we do, the cost stays affordable.
Getting to a place where all of our homes and businesses run on clean energy is going to take all of us, but we’re up to the challenge — and we know you are, too. Here are a few things we can do together.
Decarbonize our energy
By choosing renewable sources, like solar, wind and water, we can get power without creating carbon emissions. As the largest electric utility in Oregon, bringing you renewable power is one of PGE’s most important projects. But to serve everyone, we’ll need a lot of watts! Today, we’re adding more solar and wind while moving away from coal. You can help by enrolling in Green FutureSM, our voluntary renewable power program.
Another big source of carbon emissions is transportation. Did you know that about one-third of Oregon’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions come from the cars and trucks on our roads? With projects like our electric vehicle charging stations, PGE is working to help more people switch from gas-powered to electric cars.
Finally, one of the best ways to reduce carbon emissions is to use less energy altogether. We’re helping customers make smart choices by using energy-efficient appliances, light bulbs, thermostats and more.
Create a smarter grid
How and when we use energy matters. PGE is improving our power grid so that we can use as much renewable energy as possible. For example, with two-way communication between your home and our grid, you can allow us to use the extra solar power generated by your rooftop panels or charge your electric vehicle when there’s more wind power being produced. We even offer rewards for this kind of help.
We’re on our way
When you support a clean energy future, you become part of a movement. Several Oregon cities have already set a goal to reach 100 percent clean and renewable energy, and more than 178,000 of our customers have opted in to Green Future, our voluntary renewable program. Our goal is to reduce GHG emissions by more than 80 percent by 2050* — a big target, and we need your help to get there.
We’re excited to be part of the change happening in Oregon, because we don’t just work here. We live here, too. Together, we can make a clean energy future happen for real.

"We all have a role to play in addressing climate change, and we are determined to be part of the solution. Achieving a clean energy future will be challenging; we believe it is attainable and vital to Oregon’s future. We also believe the transition should not compromise reliability or affordability for our customers. We welcome the opportunity to work together with our customers, stakeholders and regional partners to make real progress in this transformation."Maria Pope, President and CEO
