Working Toward a Clean Energy Future

PGE’s balanced Integrated Resource Plan (IRP)

Energy and the environment

The future is now for renewable energy. We’ve heard from you, and we are doing our part to reduce our carbon footprint. As we develop our plan to meet our customers’ future energy needs, solutions that provide clean, affordable and reliable energy come first.

Building a more flexible energy system is essential to a more sustainable, renewable and reliable energy future. A flexible, reliable power grid allows more renewable energy such as wind and solar to come onto the grid at an affordable price. And a smarter grid can tap into the wind and rooftop solar power that our customers generate and share on those windy and sunny days. These solutions put us on a path toward a cleaner energy future.

A look at the numbers

  • Last year, more than 40 percent of the energy we delivered was from carbon-free sources.
  • We also worked with stakeholders and the Oregon Legislature in 2016 to pass aggressive new clean energy goals, requiring us to provide 50 percent of our customers’ energy from qualified renewable resources by 2040.
  • This will mean approximately 70 percent of the energy we deliver will be carbon-free by that date.
  • Our proposed resource plan could help us avoid 10.2 million tons of carbon dioxide per year by 2040.
