To strengthen the local energy grid, PGE crews will begin rebuilding the King City substation in January 2019. Most of the substation’s equipment is at or nearing the end of its expected service life. The upgrades will include a new transformer, communications and protection equipment. We will also install new power cables connecting the substation to the rest of the electrical grid.
- Substation work January to September 2019, with related line work in the fall of 2019
- 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday
This schedule may change based on the needs of the project.
While not anticipated, weekend and night hours may be required at times. If you have a question about how this construction project may affect you, contact us at 503-612-3730.
What to expect during construction?
Your home will still have service while we’re doing this work. We will use surrounding substations and a mobile substation to continue to provide reliable power to the neighborhood.
You may notice construction noise during work hours, as well as an increase in truck traffic and parking on public streets in the area — primarily along SW Versailles Rd.
We’re taking steps to ensure your safety. Here’s how you can help:
- Watch for temporary one-lane and full-street closures that may be needed.
- Follow any detours and signs placed to keep drivers, pedestrians and workers safe.
- Please avoid all electrical equipment and cables, and make sure children know to never touch the equipment.
Building a brighter energy future for you
When completed, the upgraded substation will increase service reliability for King City and help improve overall system operations for all of our customers. This is just one of many projects we’re working on to enhance and modernize the energy grid, making it smarter and more resilient, and creating a platform for a clean energy future.
Thank you for your patience and support as we work to make electric service smarter and more reliable.
