Dear Customers,

Oregon’s historic wildfires and weather-related events are devastating. Our hearts go out to all employees, customers and community members displaced by the wildfires and emergency evacuation orders, adding uncertainty and stress to an already overwhelming year. These harrowing conditions underscore just how important public safety is for everyone in the region.

At Portland General Electric, we are working as quickly as safety allows to restore power to as many affected customers as possible. Our guiding principles — principles that have led our company for more than 130 years — are grounded in a commitment to safety and to putting customers first.

Now more than ever, we are staying true to this commitment. As you likely know, to help protect people and property, we proactively implemented a public safety power shutoff (PSPS) Monday evening in the high-risk Mt. Hood corridor. Additionally, we proactively shut power off for customers in eight high-risk fire zones throughout our service area. These are not decisions we make lightly. We know how frustrating and challenging a prolonged lack of power across homes and businesses can be.

This remains a dynamic situation, which will continue to evolve. Crews are working on the front lines in close coordination with local, state and federal authorities and first responders. As we are able, we are initiating restoration work and will turn power back on when it is safe. Given the significant damage we expect power to remain off for certain customers over the coming days.
