DOE again ranks PGE No. 1 in U.S. for sales of renewable energy
July 2, 2014
PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland General Electric (NYSE: POR) has more renewable power customers and sold more renewable energy than any other utility in the United States for the second year in a row, according to the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory. NREL released its ranking of the nation’s top utility green pricing programs.
PGE has had the most renewable energy customers since 2009, and this is the second year the company also sold the most renewable energy.
At the end of 2013, PGE had nearly 100,000 business and residential renewable customers, or 12.4 percent of its eligible customers, enrolled in a renewable power program. PGE sold more than 1 million megawatt hours of renewable energy, nearly 200 thousand more than the second-place utility. In February PGE was the first — and remains the only electric utility to date — to exceed 100,000 customers enrolled in its renewable power program.
“The success of this voluntary program reflects more than 100 thousand customers’ commitment to sustainable choices that lead to a greener future,” said Carol Dillin, PGE’s vice president for customer strategies and business development.
NREL rankings are based on raw numbers for calendar year 2013 and are not adjusted for the size of the utility. The lists of leading utility green pricing programs can be accessed at PortlandGeneral.com/NREL.
Green Mountain Energy Company assists PGE in selling the renewable options and 3Degrees supplies PGE with the renewable power for these voluntary options. For more information about PGE’s renewable program, visit PortlandGeneral.com/Renewable.
