How We Generate Energy

Everyone should have access to clean energy that is safe, reliable and affordable. Here's our plan for making that happen.

A clean energy future for all of us

How we generate electricity and plan for the future is key to providing a clean energy future for Oregonians. We continue to prioritize adding more renewable power to our system to help us reduce greenhouse gas emissions related to the power we serve our customers by at least 80% by 2030.

Our wind fleet

The power of wind

Wind power offers unique benefits, including affordable emissions-free energy. In addition to long-term contracts with third-party wind energy providers, we own and operate three wind facilities: Biglow Canyon, Tucannon River and Wheatridge Renewable Energy Facility.

Wheatridge Renewable Energy Facility

Storing renewable energy for a rainy day

The wind and sun don't always cooperate when we want to use renewable energy. That's why we designed the Wheatridge Renewable Energy Facility. A first-of-its-scale resource for renewable energy generation and storage, Wheatridge combines wind power generation, solar power generation, and battery storage in one location, so we can harvest and store renewable energy for use when the sun and wind aren't generating energy.

Clean energy + reliability for the win

Wondering where we get our energy?

We know you want your energy to be clean — and you also want it to be reliable. To get the balance right, we draw from a mix of energy generation sources that include water, wind and natural gas.

Energy Imbalance Market

Our participation in the Western Energy Imbalance Market makes it easier to add more renewables to our mix and take advantage of low-cost electricity.

Resource Planning

Leading the way to Oregon’s clean energy future

As our region’s population and industries grow, we continue to look for new, cost-effective and more sustainable ways to generate electricity. Our Integrated Resource plan outlines our priorities and actions. Take a look at our 2019 IRP and help us shape the next one.
