If you have central air conditioning, a ducted heat pump or an electric furnace, you can earn rewards by signing up for our Smart Thermostat program.
Choose your rewardsThere are two ways to earn rewards – either up front or each season. The choice is up to you.
1. Ongoing rewards each season
If you have a qualifying smart or Wi-Fi thermostat or plan to buy one, and you have a heat pump, electric furnace, or central air conditioning, you can earn $25 for signing up for our program and another $25 for each winter and summer you participate.
Purchase and install
Get a $50 instant coupon from Energy Trust of Oregon when you purchase a qualifying smart thermostat.
Once your qualifying thermostat is connected to your heat pump, electric furnace or central air, you’re ready to earn rewards by enrolling in our program. Just click on your thermostat from the list of qualifying thermostats below and follow the easy steps.
You’re ready to earn! When energy demand is high, your thermostat will automatically adjust a few degrees. You don’t need to do anything, but if you don’t like the temperature it sets, you can always override the change. Just remember that to earn rewards, you will want to participate at least half of the time your thermostat wants to adjust.
2. Up-front rewards
Don’t yet have a smart thermostat? We’ll install an ecobee or Nest thermostat for free or at a deep discount (depending on your heating and cooling system) and enroll you in our thermostat program.
I have a ducted heat pump or electric furnace
Great! You qualify for a free ecobee or Nest smart thermostat, professionally installed. Just sign up for an appointment and we’ll bring it out, install it, and enroll you in our thermostat program.
I have central air conditioning plus gas heat
You qualify for a Nest Thermostat E, professionally installed, for just $50 (an estimated $400 value). Just sign up for an appointment and we’ll bring it out, install it and enroll you in our thermostat program.
I have gas or other heat and no central air, or oil heat and central air
We’re sorry, but you need electric central heat or gas heat plus central air conditioning to qualify for our smart thermostat programs. When you next need to replace your heating system, consider a highly efficient heat pump to save on heating in winter and add summer cooling.
When energy use spikes, like on a really hot day or cold morning, your smart or Wi-Fi-enabled thermostat will adjust by 1 to 3 degrees.
Your thermostat will automatically pre-heat or pre-cool your home before those peak times, so you may not even notice a difference. If you do you can change your settings at any time.
By shifting some of your energy use away from peak times, you’re helping keep prices low and enabling the use of more renewable energy.
All this while you enjoy the benefits of a smart thermostat:
- Reduce your heating and cooling costs by up to $70* a year
- Control your thermostat from your phone or with voice commands
- Be able to connect other smart devices like lights and appliances, for more home automation
* When you install a smart thermostat, you could save $35 to $45 a year on heating costs. If you have a heat pump, you can save even more – about $70 on heating and cooling costs.
